Fun party games, quizzes and other Christmas party ideas are the key to creating a great Christmas for the family. Some games are easy and cheap to prepare.

Christmas party planning can be stressful for the host, where the fear of silences and strained conversations may create an afternoon that seems to drag by. Christmas entertainment can be spiced up with some original, interactive and fun party games for kids and adults alike within the family.

Christmas Games for Parties

With the advent of a large family gathering, the host may wonder how to make the time go by pleasantly. Making Christmas special and fun for the family can be achieved with little effort. The popular route of Trivial Pursuit, Charades, Monopoly or online games for kids will often work well, but the host may fancy something different this year.

Creating a personalised quiz, consisting of photocopied images of well-known people where the teams must try to guess who they are is a good start. Using poor quality images or those that are old may add a challenge.

“Guess Who” Fun Christmas Party Game

However, family fun can be taken a step further by obtaining photographs of family members and photocopying them onto print paper. Using black and white images may add a challenge. The host may then have fun doctoring the images with black pen, by drawing in big hair, glasses, cigars and hairy eyebrows and so forth to the pictures. The family members must then try to guess who lies behind the disguise.

The host must not obscure the image so much that it is impossible to tell. Leaving just enough clues will create a heated debate within the teams as they have fun trying to guess who the person might be.

Mystery Party Games for the Family

The party game can have a new spin if the host similarly obtains old photographs of the family members sporting yesterday’s favourite clothes or situations. With the faces blacked out, the teams must then try to guess who the person might be in the huge flairs, the boy-band T-shirt or the funny bikini.

Debate will take on a new level as the team members reminisce on forgotten memories that the images may trigger and revisit shared experiences of long ago, which may even reinforce old bonds within the family.

How to Organise a Fun Family Christmas Party

Depending upon the size of the gathering, teams of three to five would be ideal so that each person is able to get a good view of the images. Proper preparation of the quiz will ensure the quiz can be undertaken without confusion. In this respect, each quiz sheet should be clearly labelled and each image numbered.

A separate answer sheet should correspond with each quiz sheet. Ensuring that every family member is featured within an image will ensure that everyone is able to contribute something to the quiz and share in the fun.

To save the host time, the quiz sheet may be swapped around for marking, where each family member can await with bated breath for the answers, some of which may surprise.

The Best Holiday Parties for the Family

The host may feel anxious about how to make a family Christmas get-together work, particularly when on a Christmas budget. By creating a personalised quiz aimed at the family adds something different. By obtaining photographs of family members and doctoring the photocopies will provide much mirth. Furthermore, obtaining old photographs and blanking out the faces will certainly perplex some and create nostalgia that is likely to reinforce family bonds.
